LIVINGSTONE's TABLES of the ISLANDS of SCOTLAND have 347 islands spread over 11 regions, there is a section for each region: 1. The Solway Firth and the Clyde 2. Kintyre to Corryvreckan 3. The Firth of Lorne & Loch Linnhe 4. The Ross of Mull to Ardnamurchan 5. Skye and it's neighbours 6. The southern Outer Hebrides 7. The Sound of Harris & the northern Outer Hebrides 8. The north west, north & east coasts 9. The Orkneys & the Pentland Firth 10. The Shetlands 11. Inland islands Absolutely indispensible for the really serious list ticking islandbagger with a serious compulsive disorder! This is definitely the only listing in existence designed purely for islandbaggers. It is also the only list I've seen going from the largest down to the reasonably small islands i.e. From the UK MAINLAND down the FLANNANS. They are significantly more complete and comprehensive than Hamish Haswell Smith's list and include: -Every island with an area of 15 hectares (37 acres) or more. That's roughly equivalent to a circular island about 400 metres (1/4 of a mile) across. - Tidal islands. After all they are islands when the tide comes in, so many islands like Oronsay (off Colonsay) are included. - Islands bridged or causewayed to other islands or the mainland. So islands like Skye, Benbecula, Eriskay, Berneray and Seil are all included as separate, individual islands. - Most small islands of note, like the Flannans or Staffa. - Islands in freshwater lochs. There are 8 in Loch Lomond alone! WARNING - islandbagging can become a compulsive disorder for which I cannot be held responsible!!!! | |||||
